ShallowreaderBingo! July

The July card is here!

My Bingo game has been going for 6 months and I want to add a new category. I have been giving a shout out to the fastest bingo caller. Several people who would like to play have said that the game is too fast/too many boxes for them so I’m going to now give a second prize!

A shout out to the best match up between a bingo square and your chosen material. It doesn’t matter if you have read 25 items or only 1 item, I will choose my favourite entry depending on how amusing I find it. It is a very objective measure, scientifically proven.

Meanwhile, as her prize for winning, two of the boxes have been contributed to July by BookThingo who won last month’s game. Can anyone guess which ones are hers?

Remember that any reading goes – novels, letters, lyrics, news, captions, blogs – the lot!

Join in and play!

Row 1: XXL; It’s Complicated; July; Insta-WHAT!; Quaint Row 2: Tyranny of Distance; Ghost Town; Lick; Pyrrhic Victory; Fifty-Fifty Row 3: Crushed it!; They; True Love’s Kiss; And the Fandom Rejoiced; Ice Castles Row 4: Pulling out!; Wicked; Summer Lovin’; π (maths notation pi); Happy Dance Row 5: Betty; Going Solo; Delicate; Sausage Sizzle; 18

Meanwhile, I continue to lose at my own game. But read, I did. Here are the squares I scored:

Lady Bridget's DiaryLady Bridget’s Diary

by Maya Rodale

Bingo Square: Dear Diary

This is the first of Rodale’s new Keeping Up with the Cavendishes series. The Cavendish family is from America. The brother has inherited some duke-ish title so the whole family has packed their bags and moved to the United Kingdom where they struggle to fit in. The duke’s sister Lady Bridget keeps a diary where she reveals all her feels for the Ton and especially horrible Lord Darcy who ends up being her lurve but not before her diary is stolen and a big, dark secret is at risk of being revealed. There are aspects of this book that I loved (one day I even found myself kissing the pages I had just read!) yet the overt Pride and Prejudice parallels annoyed me and the who Team USA brought love to the UK sentiment grated. It is hard being torn in two directions with the one read.

I borrowed this book from a public library in New South Wales.

As for my own Bingo card – here is how I fared:

Jane the VirginJane the Virgin

Bingo Square: Netflix and Chill

I absolutely adore Jane the Virgin. It is currently my favourite show ever. It is like a mash up between Days of Our Lives, Harlequin Presents/Sexy Mills & Boon and Arrested Development. What has this got to do with reading, I hear you ask? Well, my sons are also obsessed with the show and my sons watch everything on TV with closed captions turned on. Everything! It drives me batty! But it does mean I read all my viewing. I have also become somewhat obsessed with every news article and interview I can find on Jane the Virgin’s writer Jennie Snyder Urman. I find it unbelievable that she did not grow up watching soaps and telenovelas as she has hit every single bell that as a watcher I enjoy. I am totally in love with Rafael in the show. He is the ultimate Harlequin Presents Lynne Graham gazillionaire. He’s hot, he’s suave and he wears faded salmon oh-so-well. Swoon with me people! Swoon!
